A Novel Affair was born from a lifelong love of romance stories—and the belief that they deserve a space as vibrant, cozy, and joyful as the readers who love them.
Founded by Yung and Julie, two Bay Area locals, longtime friends of over twenty years, and unapologetic romance readers, A Novel Affair reimagines what a bookstore can be. We dreamed of a beautifully designed third space where books, coffee, wine, and community come together—because romance isn’t just a genre, it’s a feeling. Our long-term vision is intentional and romantic at heart: a book café by day and a wine bar by night.
Today, A Novel Affair lives as a pop-up edition in Los Altos (featuring romance books and bookish merchandise), operating as a residency through at least summer 2026. This space allows us to build community, test and refine our concept, and grow alongside the readers who support us. With the continued love and enthusiasm of our community, we hope to make Los Altos our permanent home.
A Novel Affair would not be possible without the incredible community that believed in this vision from the start—including the successful funding of our Kickstarter campaign, which helped bring this dream to life.

The Assistance League of Los Altos is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs. We have been supporting underserved infants, children, teens, and families for over 60 years. Funding comes from donations, grants and “The League Shop” vintage and collectibles shop at 169 State Street in Downtown Los Altos. This local chapter of National Assistance League also offers social and volunteer opportunities to teens 7th – 12th grades.
The League Shop is a large nonprofit vintage and collectible store in downtown Los Altos. Here you will find a huge variety of items including jewelry, furniture, artwork, antiques, collectibles, and other household items. Inventory is donated to the Assistance League Store from generous local individuals and organizations. The store is open for shopping and donation drop-offs every Thu, Fri and Sat from 10am -1pm. Please come by to donate your quality items, shop and find out about joining our group.

Adventure Toys is now part of Cheeky Monkey Toys. Welcome to the new Cheeky Monkey Toys, a local, family owned and operated, independent toy store, now with two locations. Cheeky Monkey Toys has been in business since 1999. In 2007 they moved from a smaller location to their present location, a block from El Camino Real in Menlo Park. Shawn and Vivien met in 2007, they really did not know much about wine, or why people pay thousands of dollars for a bottle.
They didn’t understand “How you can find a great bottle of wine of high quality but reasonably priced?”
With that goal they started their wine education journey by visiting and tasting various AVA locations in the North coast, Central coast, and Southern California areas. They drove all over California in search of the right understanding. Along the way Shawn & Vivien did various wine tastings in Monterey County, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles areas, Sonoma County, and of course where they settled in their hearts on wine – Napa Valley.
